This improves the machinability rating from 20% to 85% of free-cutting brass, while retaining 93% to 98% of copper's pure electrical conductivity.
Standard copper containing cuprous oxide releases steam at the grain boundaries when exposed to hydrogen at high temperatures (above 400°C), causing micro-cracking and mechanical failure. High-purity oxygen-free copper reduces the oxygen content to less than 10 ppm (and often less than 5 ppm). This prevents the internal formation of steam, ensuring structural integrity during brazing, welding, or vacuum heating processes.
C18150 undergoes precipitation hardening, combining chromium and zirconium to create fine precipitates within the copper matrix.
